Toddler learning activities at home for 12 to 18 months.....

Coin box :-

I had a toy box. I just made a small opening so that coins can be inserted through it. And that's it. A new game for your baby is ready. I give some coins and my baby starts to insert it one by one into the hole. This also keeps her busy for a while and getting engaged in a fine motor skills activity.

Learning shapes :-

I just used a cardboard and foam sheet. First I drew different shapes on the cardboard and cut out the shapes from the foam sheet. Thats it, the game is ready. Instruct your child to identify the corresponding shape and let them enjoy while learning shapes. You can also use Velcro for more effective play.

Straw games for fine motor skills :-

For this first game, you will need a bottle and some straws. Let your kid insert each straw into the bottle.

For this second straw game, you will need a thermocouple, straws and paper or pasta.

Make some holes on the thermal and let the kid first insert the straws into different holes and then insert the pasta onto the straws.

Stamping :-

You can make simple stamps at home using bottle caps and foam sheets or rubber. I had some pickle bottles. Using foam sheets, I cut some basic shapes and glued them on the caps. Stamps are ready. Kid can color the stamp and start stamping on a piece of paper. Yo Ivan teach shapes, colours and anything of your choice with this stamping technique. Kids will learn them with great fun.

Size sorting :-

I had two sized cloth clips. So thought of introducing my little one with sizes I.e. big and small.. this is a very simple activity requires cloth clips and 2 trays. I used the fruit box I had.

Painting with earbud :-

Using colours and earbuds, we did free hand painting. It was fun for both of us. My little one enjoyed a lot and got totally involved in it. Though her hands and everything got messy but it was worth.

Spooning, scooping and transferring:-

You need two bowls, some pulses or cereals, a spoon or a scoop. They can just transfer the pulses from one bowl to another. This is a good practical life skill for kids.

Transferring using funnel activity :-

This we did as a part of diwali activity. Using Rangoli colours and an empty bottle, we transferred the colours using scoop and a funnel. Though we couldn't complete it, but a very good activity for toddlers to increase fine motor skills.

Shape matching activity :-

Using foam sheet and Velcro, this shape matching activity can be done.

Pom pom activity 1:-

A very loved activity by toddlers. pom poms are the all time favourite and a hit activity. This activity requires only some pom poms and an empty container. make some holes on the lid of the container and the fun begins.....

This is kids favourite activity. They love pom pom and play with it for so long. You can any empty container or any cardboard box and make some holes. You can get these pom pom in ur local shops or online too. This is a very cheap and easy to make activity and kids really enjoy doing this activity.

Pom poms and thongs :-

Again a good activity using pom poms for developing fine motor skills. This requires some pom poms, a container and a thong. The kid is supposed to transfer the pom poms using thongs. U will get safe tongs made specially for children.

Counting math using pom poms :-

This  is a good start for teaching numbers. This activity requires only some pom poms, bottle caps and some papers sticked on cardboard or cardstock. I glued the bottle caps using hot glue gun. the kid has to insert the pom poms in the caps according to the numbers..

Color sorting activity :-

This is a very simple activity which can be prepared using colored popsicles and four colored containers. I had this white plastic curd containers which i colored using acrylic colors.

Color matching :-

These are the sketch pens I had. I just seperated the sketchpens with their lids and it became a good activity for color matching for my toddler. My lo really enjoyed matching the caps.

Object sorting :-

This activity can be created using anything around the house. I used popsicles and pom poms of the same color. The kid has to sort the pom poms from the popsicles and put in the two trays respectively.
