Every child is unique. The genes and environment of child influences the growth of the child.
Child development involved different areas-
- cognitive skills : thinking skills, reasoning and problem solving
- Physical skills : Gross motor skills, fine motor skills and sensory
- Social /emotional - feeling
- Language - communication
Learning is a life long process and it begins the moment we are born
Among the different developmental areas , one of the most important things in bringing up a child is to encourage his/her motor skill development. Correct hand-eye coordination is the base for the child to develop into more sophisticated movements later on in the child's life and become independent.
Fine motor skills:
These are movements involving your child's small muscles in the hands and forearms. When he picks up a toy or throws it off, it involves fine motor skills. These skills help your child grasp a pencil, hold a crayon, cut a paper, write with ease etc. At different ages the child will display only a certain level of progress. As years'progress the child will pick it up and perfect. Be patient and encouraging.
Activities that promote fine motor skills :- Activities like building blocks, jigsaws, stacking, playing with play dough, finger painting, paper cutting and DIY crafts are all aimed at fine motor skills development. Learning through playing is the best approach to teach a child of his age anything. Also make sure that you involve your child in chores you do. Take him to the kitchen and let him explore and play with kitchen tools and do little things like passing the vegetables you name, cleaning them, stacking and many such things. Be creative and open the world of learning to your little explorers.
